Pre-School Playgroup

St. John's Playtime Pre-school is a friendly, committe-run pre-school based in East Ipswich.  We are open from 8.15am-4.30pm each weekday during term-time.

Most children who attend our pre-school go on to attend the local primary schools in our area including Britannia, Sidegate, Clifford Road, Rosehill and St John's.

We offer flexible hours for families and funding can be used for any hours during the day.  We offer spaces for children who are entitled to 30 hours funding and are also signed up to the Tax-Free Childcare scheme (more details can be found at

We offer both fee paying and funded spaces for children, and accept childcare vouchers as payment.  Families are also able to use 'Golden Tickets' with us.

We can accommodate up to 34 children per session and are our staff are all trained in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

We are based in a large hall in St John's UR Church and also have the use of a secure, enclosed garden area outside with a big sandpit.

We offer a range of different activities for all our children including messy play, small world play, sensory play and role play.  We also have a quiet room stocked with books and soft toys.

We were rated as 'Good' by Ofsted during our last inspection (2018).

Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities

We are a fun and educational pre-school for children aged 2-4 years. We are dedicated to providing a safe, secure and happy environment, where all children can learn through play and enjoy a wide variety of resources and activities.

We have a dedicated Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENCo) who will work with all our other staff to identify any children who need additional consideration to support their Social, Emotional and Physical needs whilst in our setting.  We pride ourselves on having a positive parent/carer partnership to ensure that all parents/carers can communicate effectively with us and that we can all work together to support the needs of their child.

All our staff are fully trained in all aspects of childcare including First-aid and Makaton.
