Lucie Bugg

Childminder

I have been registered as a childminder since June 2006, but I have worked as a qualified nanny to children from six weeks to as old as sixteen since obtaining the BTEC National Diploma in Nursery Nursing in 1994. I also have two sons of my own, aged 15 years and 7 years.
I aim to provide a fun, loving and safe enviroment in which I can stimulate a child's development in all areas. I do this through play which promotes equal opportunities, such as, outdoor activities, arts and crafts, books, music, cooking, imaginitive play and outings.
As I only care for small groups of children I am able to offer each child closer attention and can cater better for their individual needs no matter what their age and abilities.
As an Ofsted registered childminder I have shown a Childcare Inspector that I am able to meet national standards and have been graded as providing a 'Good' standard of care.
My home is as safe and secure as possible and is a non-smoking enviroment, and I have many policies in place to safeguard the children in my care and their families.
I always work in partnership with parents/carers to maximise the quality of service which I provide to you and your family using the Early Years Foundation Stage profile to access each child's developmental needs.

Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities

I aim to provide an environment in which all children, including those with special educational needs (SEN), are supported to reach their full potential.

·         I ensure my provision is inclusive to all children with special educational needs.

·         I monitor and review my policy, practice and provision and, if necessary, make adjustments.

·         I ensure that my inclusive admissions practice ensures equality of access and opportunity.

·         I liaise with other professionals involved with children with special educational needs and their families, including in connection with transfer arrangements to other settings and schools.

·         I use a system of planning, implementing, monitoring, evaluating and reviewing individual educational plans (IEPs) for children with special educational needs.

·         I provide a complaints procedure.

·         I monitor and review my policy annually.

If I think a child in my care has a special need I will:

·         Keep observational notes

·         Share these with the child’s parents

·         Discuss what support is available

·         Keep all matters confidential

If I am caring for a child with special needs I will include them by:

·         valuing and acknowledging children’s individuality and help them to feel good about themselves.

·         seeking information from parents about the child’s routines, likes and dislikes.

·         providing a broad, balanced and differentiated activities for all children with special educational needs,

adapting activities to enable children with special needs to take part.

·         arranging access to specialist equipment if needed.

·         considering any risk factors.

·         encouraging children’s confidence and independence.

I will work closely with the parents of children with special educational needs to create and maintain a positive partnership and ensure:

·         that parents are informed at all stages of the assessment, planning, provision and review of their children's education.

·         that I provide parents with information on sources of independent advice and support.

·         That I offer them advice or support that will help me to provide the best care possible for their child.

I will work in partnership with other agencies that are also involved in the child’s support and care in order to meet individual children's needs.

I will consider how I can ensure the privacy of a child with special needs whilst continuing to supervise other children in my care.

If your child is already part of an Early Support Pilot Programme, holds an SEN Statement, School Action, Action Plus, has a Parent-Held Child Health Record or anything similar then I will need to have copies of these records to help me plan appropriate care
