Sense College East – Sense Centre Aldeby

Sense College East is a specialist independent college for young people aged 16-25, with special educational needs and disabilities.  Sense College East is Ofsted registered and was graded 'Good' in February 2023.  We provide personalised learning experiences that equip young people with the best education and skills required to achieve their chosen independent living, education and/or employment goals. 

Our college education service is provided for 3 days per week and 38 weeks per academic year.

The young people we support:

  • Are aged between 16 and 25 years old
  • Have an Education Health Care Plan
  • Have sensory impairments
  • Have moderate-complex learning difficulties
  • Require specialist communication support

 The services we offer:

  • Highly personalised and progression focused learning programmes
  • On-going support with vocational and independent living life skills
  • Wellbeing, health and care plans
  • Courses linked to external accreditation, leading to nationally recognised qualifications
  • Learning through meaningful, realistic and practical activities
  • Programmes and strategies designed to assist students to cope and become more confident in social situations
  • Specialist sensory and communication assessment and support
  • An extensive programme of social, leisure and sporting activities within the local community

Our local college provision is based in Aldeby (Suffolk), situated near to Beccles and Great Yarmouth.  If offers a bright and airy building, specially adapted to meet the varying needs of students.  Facilities include classrooms, a sensory room and fully accessible kitchenette. 

 The centres also provides an adult social care day service for people aged 18 years and above who:

  • Have sensory impairments
  • Have moderate-complex learning difficulties
  • Require specialist communication support

We provide specialised education and everyday living programmes and every learner will have a study programme based on their Education, Health and Care plan to meet their agreed outcomes and to help prepare each person for adulthood.

We treat every student as an individual and assist them in fulfilling their potential this by:

  • Encouraging students' individual skills
  • Individual timetables
  • Appointing a personal tutor
  • Regular reviews of progress
  • Personalised study programmes and individual learning plans
  • Supporting learners to make choices and to develop their autonomy
  • Encouraging community participation
  • Support plans to ensure health and welfare is monitored and supported.

We ensure that students and other supported persons have all the necessary adaptive equipment and aids to ensure that they can participate fully in all activities and reach their potential. We provide experienced, trained teachers and support staff to help individuals achieve excellent outcomes.
