SET Causton School is a Community Junior School admitting children from the age of 7 – 11 years into Year 3 to Year 6. Most children attending SET Maidstone School transfer to Causton at the age of 7.
The organisation of KS2 classes varies from year to year, depending on the number of children on roll. At present there are three Year 3/4 classes, two Year 5 classes, two Year 6 classes and two Local Authority Specialist Provisions for pupils who have an EHCP and moderate learning difficulties.
The two Specialist Provision classes are Local Authority Special Needs provisions. The Cognition and Learning class is an 18 place class and to be able to access this provision the child will need an EHCP and the school that they attend will need to apply for a place from the Local Authority. The Communication and Interaction class is also an 18 place class and to be able to access this provision the child will need an EHCP and the school that they attend will need to apply for a place from the Local Authority.
During the term before they start in Year 3, the children have many visits to their new class, to meet their new teacher. Time is set aside for parents to visit, be given information and ask questions.
Two consultation weeks are held per year, to give parents the opportunity to discuss their children’s progress in a formal situation. We have an Open Door policy for parents to come in and discuss concerns at any time, on a more informal basis. Please do not hesitate to make an appointment.
The published admission number for 2020/21 is 75 pupils.
At 11 years of age most of our children transfer to Felixstowe Academy. A small minority of children may transfer to other local High Schools, Academies or an Independent High School including SET Saxmundham. The transition from one school to the other is made as smooth as possible by regular liaison and planned visits. Staff from both schools meet to discuss and plan curriculum and pastoral organisation.
