Experience of including people with special educational needs and disabilities

Pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are supported in mainstream classes through personalised learning provision. Teachers know and understand the children’s' needs and ensure these are met in classrooms, on trips and in extra-curricular activities. Some children require extra help: they may be supported in mainstream classes by Teaching Assistants who use specialised knowledge and skills to support learning. Where necessary, children receive extra support through intervention work: sometimes this takes place during lesson time but outside of the classroom.

At Sidegate we support children with a range of needs: Autistic Spectrum Conditions, Speech and Language, Physical Needs, Specific Learning Difficulties, Visual Impairment, Hearing Impairment, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health. We work closely with all outside agencies to provide specialist support and learning.
Accessibility: Sidegate is situated on a large site. The school has ground floor and first floor classrooms. There is a lift to the first floor making the whole building wheelchair accessible. There are accessible toilets on the ground and first floor.
If you have any questions regarding your child’s needs please contact the school.
