Exercise, fresh air and stimulation can help people retain their skills and interests for longer, improve wellbeing and have a positive impact on the lives of people with dementia and their carers/families. Once diagnosed, people with dementia are at risk of being indoors too much of the time resulting in an unnecessary decline in their physical, emotional and social well-being. Dementia Adventure is a multi-award winning charity based in Essex but working nationally. We believe that, with the right support, people living with dementia can continue to do the things they have always enjoyed: get outdoors, remain active, keep connected to friends, family and their community and retain a sense of adventure in their lives. Dementia Adventure provides a range of services – all with nature in mind:
Fully supported dementia holidays
Dementia Adventure offers small-group, supported holidays for people with dementia and their family, friends or carers to enjoy together. Whether you want to relax by the coast, sail on the river, or walk in the mountains, we have something for everyone and welcome people with all types of dementia. Holidays take place in a range of beautiful locations across the UK - from Cornwall to Cumbria, Devon to Norfolk and inbetween. The tickets, travel, accommodation and itinerary are all arranged for you. During the holiday each couple is fully supported by a specially trained team member, ensuring the person with dementia is safe and and the carer can get a break. The holidays are typically Monday - Friday. We also offer bespoke holidays. If you have a group of friends or family who want to travel together we can tailor a holiday just for you. As a charity, we fundraise to reduce the cost and make the holidays more affordable.
Dementia Skills Sessions
We provide online information sessions for family and friends caring for somebody with dementia as well as those in paid work or volunteering to support somebody living with dementia. You can connect with qualified dementia trainers, learn more about dementia and receive practical tips to help you in your supportive role. They cover a range of topics, based on a key building block in our training programme - Thinking Differently About Dementia.
Support for organisations
Our team of experienced trainers deliver a range of dementia training and support tailored to your organisation. We can upskill your staff and volunteers that already support people living with dementia, help you create inclusive and accessible services across your organisation or set up a nature-based programme specifically for people living with dementia in your local community
