    Holiday Scheme

A1 Fun Club is a well established children's Day Nursery and Out of School club. We offer our children and their families a welcoming and friendly environment where children can learn and develop individually, through a wide range of challenging and stimulating activities that will enhance their development. Our Breakfast and After school clubs provide transfers to and from local schools as well as fun and safe place for your child out of school. Each session is filled with fun activities that the children can enjoy with their friends.
We have been established for 16 years. Our highly trained and qualified staff have many years of knowledge and experience, they are a caring and thoughtful team. Many of our children are returning siblings or attended our nursery and now attend our out of school club. Over many years we have built excellent links to the local community, with the local schools and the health/children's centre.

At our Ofsted inspection in September 2018, the inspector reported 'Staff form close and supportive partnerships with parents, who praise staff for the care and attention they give their children. Parents become actively involved in their children's learning. They have good opportunities to share information about their children's daily experiences with staff. The qualified and experienced staff work well as a cohesive team and have a good understanding of their responsibilities. They deploy themselves effectively to supervise children during their play and provide them with the support they need.'

We are a local charity that has grown out of the successful Town & Bridge Project, established in 2006 in an area of high urban deprivation in Ipswich, Suffolk. ActivLives now works across Ipswich and Suffolk to deliver initiatives that help motivate, support and inspire people living in areas of deprivation, make positive changes to their lifestyle and improve their own health and well-being and employability.

Our main target group is older, independent adults, although many of our programmes provide for a younger age profile. Please contact us if you would like to find out more.

Alpha Inclusion provides a flexible service to meet the inclusion needs of families, schools and organisations working with children and young people.

We offer a range of solutions:-

    • Whole Service Support - bespoke training, targeted intervention, Assemblies and Interactive workshops in schools and other settings.
    • Training Workshops - a range of workshops to support those working with young people with communication difficulties. Examples of bespoke training include:-
    • Building Blocks for Communication - training for parents, carers and education professionals in the use of LegoTM to improve communication including LegoTM therapy.
    • Interventions with Impact - Based on the e-book 'Interventions with Impact' (Optimus Education), this workshop looks at the process of planning, delivering, monitoring and reviewing personalised interventions. It considers how to include parents and the young people in the process and how to use readily available data to avoid unnecessary paperwork. Perfect for staff who run interventions and would like to develop skills in evidencing their impact.
    • Personalised Pupil Support - specialist support for children with Autism, selective mutism and other communication difficulties.
    • Family solutions - advice and practical solutions to support families of students with complex needs including social communication difficulties. We offer workshops and drop in sessions for parents and carers.
    • On The Move - Alpha Inclusion has been running individual and group sessions in education, health and social care settings for years and the Team are extremely experienced in Social Communication and Group Work Skills Building. We’re now very excited we can be on the move!!
    • The Block Bus can come out to your school, community group or organisation for structured individual or group sessions, personalised to suit the social or emotional needs of your children or young people.and we are all different. For children with special educational needs, or simply a different way of doing things, life can appear challenging. These challenges can be overcome.

With a solution-focused approach and a belief that all children and adults should be given a chance to reach their potential, Alpha Inclusion works with the person, their support and the environment.

We also run holiday sessions which create a nurturing environment for children to develop their social communication skills.

This woodland is a fascinating mosaic of ancient coppice woodland, new naturally regenerating woodland alongside wet meadows. The interesting mix of trees includes oak, ash, field maple, holly, crab apple, superb large alder and hazel stools. This reserve is also one of only a few ancient woodlands in Suffolk with wild cherry.
It’s best to visit in spring when you will be greeted with a fabulous display of bluebells accompanied by the magical song of woodland birds. Listen out for black cap, whitethroat and willow warbler.

ABILITY SCHOOL OF DANCE offer specialised, inclusive, accessible opportunities to dance, for individuals of all ages and abilities (including D/deaf, Disabled &/ Neurodivergent individuals)!

Our classes are specifically tailored to suit those from a wide selection of marginalised groups, who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience the benefits of dance.

We cover both the creative and technical aspects of movement, in a variety of styles and genres.

Our aim is to promote physical, mental and emotional wellbeing for all of our participants. We achieve this by focusing on multiple skill sets, which in turn also vastly improve the future life prospects of our dancers.

For Autism Movement Therapy (AMT), Inclusive/Accessible Ballet, Wellbeing Dance Classes & more - please get in touch to book onto a free taster session!

AMT is an exciting, innovative approach, combining movement, music and improvisation in a highly structured program, in order to enrich the lives of individuals on the Autism Spectrum.

Supported by academic research, the AMT method is proving to be one of the most effective ways to activate and awaken areas of the brain, which may otherwise remain dormant in these individuals.

AMT works by involving both visual movement mirroring and auditory receptive processing, alongside repetition of progressive patterns and increasingly complex sequences, to stimulate both the left and right hemispheres of the brain simultaneously.

Whereas in Autism, communication between the two hemispheres is impaired, this in turn promotes interhemispheric integration - cognitive re-mapping, made possible by the existence of neuroplasticity - through which both established and new neuronal pathways across the corpus callosum are strengthened.

Ultimately, connectivity and transmission across the whole brain is optimised, enabling individuals on the Autism Spectrum to process information in a far more efficient manner.

AMT has repeatedly been shown to lead to vast improvements in social interaction, self-esteem, behavioural responses, emotional regulation, speech & language comprehension, sensorimotor skills, focus, memory and consequentially, in addition, academic achievement.

Rather than “fixing” autism, AMT aims to empower individuals, enabling them to become more independent and better able to cope in an unpredictable, neurotypical world, therefore allowing them to lead happier, more fulfilling lives.

The Base is an open access youth drop in for all young people in school years 7-13. It takes place at the High Suffolk Centre in Debenham every Friday night during school term times and at the Skate Park in Eye every other Friday. Activities such as Xbox, pool table, table football and outside games available every week plus some one off special events. No cost to come in but you might want some money to stock up on snacks from our café.

The Base exists to help all young people discover and build a strong personal foundation of value, identity and purpose, a solid base from which each person can grow and develop. We work with and support young people, families, schools and communities to develop and stand on these foundations by:

    • Growing Potential

Training sessions are split to allow less experienced players to learn the basics at a more gentle pace, helped by dedicated coaches and more experienced players. Then, later in the session, the focus switches so the Team and more experienced players can develop their skills and game playing.

Once a month (normally the last Thursday) a session targeting children 4 and above is run by a dedicated coach.

The intrinsically linked and important usage of the sanctuary is for young people, especially those with learning disabilities, serious illnesses and behavioural problems, who work with mentors or carers and develop the site for our palliative care visitors. This integrated approach improves outcomes for both groups.

Green Light Trust is a well-respected environmental education charity which uses the Power of Nature to transform lives; with woodlands near Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich, at RSPB Minsmere, at RSPB Strumpshaw Fen, and at other project locations around East Anglia.

We provide support to disadvantaged or marginalised adults and children ; helping them with their wellbeing, work and life skills, through our woodland and online programmes.

    We do this by:

    • Inspiring, empowering and supporting people with woodland wellbeing and educational activities
    • Enhancing the education, health and wellbeing of individuals and community groups to cope better with the life challenges they face, through using opportunities in the natural environment.
    • Engaging people on a mental health or alcohol and substance abuse recovery pathway.
    • Improving mental and physical wellbeing, self-esteem, confidence, social and communication skills.
    • Offering support to individuals who feel socially anxious or isolated.
    • Working with employment and probation services to help people back into work, training or volunteering opportunities.
    • Working with schools, colleges, pupil referral units and local authorities to provide alternative education provision for children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEND), EHCPs, behavioural challenges, mental health issues, or other barriers that mean they struggle to cope or progress in mainstream education.

We are also accredited by the Forest School Association, to train teachers and outdoor practitioners at Level 2 or 3 in Forest School, and in addition offer CPD days.

We are a broad collective of media and health professionals who are dedicated to working with people of all abilities and ages in a variety of I Made This projects.

We approach this not as teachers, but as facilitators who work alongside people to develop new skills, creative ideas and media formats.

The ideas and inspiration for the work comes from the people themselves, with the facilitators using their expertise to introduce new skills and techniques in order to realise and support individual creative visions.

Our animation workshops appeal to young people of all ages and abilities, and as a general rule we aim to serve the age group 8 -16 years.

iCAN Swim is a branded swimming programme delivered by partner organisations and leisure providers across the county.

iCAN Swim encourages disabled people to join in a range of sessions, designed to help build swimming confidence at disability friendly centres.

iCAN Swim sessions aim to get more people swimming by promoting opportunities for people with disabilities and impairments to swim regardless of age or ability.

Some long-term health conditions and impairments start later in life and may impact on swimming confidence long after someone has learnt to swim. iCAN Swim is designed to get anyone swimming again with confidence.

We are a dedicated youth charity, empowering under 25s to achieve a better future.

Working closely with young people, we support their personal development and wellbeing, as well as helping them overcome obstacles and progress onto professional pathways.

With almost 10 years behind us, we’re looking forward to a future where we can have an even greater impact on young lives and their communities. More opportunities, more friendships, more understanding, more services and more happiness.

Our education programmes change lives, tackling a range of issues that young people face. Our students learn new skills and qualities thelping them gain important skills for work and life.

We also offer ‘free to access’ sport sessions to provide activities for children & young people to take part in without the barrier of cost, keeping them active and engaged outside of the school gates.

We help young people grow their confidence, build new skills, deal with adversity and find their path in life.

“Our purpose is to help you find your purpose."

    Prince's Trust Team programme

Our Prince's Trust Team Programme is a 12-week experience for 16-25-year-olds across Suffolk & North Essex who aren’t currently in work or education to build their confidence and move forward into something positive.

You will take part in new experiences, meet young people in the same boat as you, take part in a work placement, plan and complete a community project, grow in confidence, self-esteem and motivation. If this sounds like you or someone you know, get in touch with our team to discuss your options. If you're not sure about your next steps, this could be the perfect course for you!

Travel to and from programme provided and this does not affect any benefits that you receive. Find out more here.

    Sport at Inspire Suffolk

Our team of experienced sports coaches deliver a variety of engaging sports sessions across Suffolk to develop technical skills, game understanding and most importantly, confidence and social skills that develop self-esteem and motivation to continue playing.

A lot of the work we undertake uses the power of sport to engage as many children and young people in various programmes. We are committed to developing a much wider offering that encourages those interested in learning other sports such as tennis, basketball, and handball just as much opportunity. We also offer a range of disability sport too.

    Venue Hire supporting our charity

We have charity bases in both Ipswich on Lindbergh Road and Lowestoft at Colville House. Both of these venues can be hired to host a range of events from parties to sports sessions and any profit from these supports our charity working with local young people. We can host celebrations, business events, sports clubs or events and more! Find out more about hiring our venues here.

Activities that young people can undertake include creative arts, cooking, gaming, access to computers, table tennis, table football and pool - which are carried out at the youth hub (above Tesco) in the town centre.  Youth workers are always on hand if young people want to talk about their worries and concerns.

    Food Museum

With 17 historic buildings set in 75 acres of beautiful countryside, the Food Museum is the largest independent museum in Suffolk. The museum is an educational charity supporting the community. We care for over 40,000 objects – once the everyday items of East Anglian life. Our collection has a particular focus on the production of food and social history relating to it, reflective of the region’s strong agricultural character.

Visitors can also explore nearly 3 km of woodland and riverside nature trails and meet friendly animals in the farm area. The wonderful Walled Garden is maintained by a team of volunteers who have created a peaceful haven which also sells fresh produce.

Try some delicious homemade food in the museum cafe.

Join the museum community by volunteering; meet new people, gain some new skills and improve your physical health and well-being by getting outdoors and giving back to the community. The museum has over 100 volunteers, they work at our events, in the Walled Garden, on the Heritage Farm and even from home on our remote volunteering project.

There is free entry for pre-booked educational groups as well as a variety of museum led sessions and loans boxes full of handling objects which can be borrowed from the museum. Reminiscence loan boxes of museum objects are also available, for use by community groups, residential homes, carers organisations or people who are involved in memory work with the elderly.

The National Trust is for everyone, and we want to make it easy for disabled visitors to enjoy the places we care for. We’re continually looking to create solutions for accessibility which are creative and sensitive to our surroundings.

The Essential Companion card makes it simple to bring one or two carers or companions with you, free of charge. Just show the card when you arrive, and your carer(s) or companion(s) won’t need to pay an entry fee.

The Links Pass gives half-price entry to groups affiliated with disability charities, day centres, or registered care homes. Carers or companions with the group are welcome free of charge. To order your pass or card, just get in touch with us by phone, email, or post.

    Notes

Pakefield Riding School, one of the oldest and best known horse riding centres and stables in the East Anglia. Within easy riding distance of Pakefield Beach, the School offers a wide range of activities, such as: Pony for the Day - supervised by qualified staff is a popular attraction, especially useful for those considering the commitment needed if you intend to own your own pony. The pupils start the day by feeding, grooming and cleaning out their pony followed by showing, a lesson, lunch and then a Gymkhana or ride to the beach or countryside. Beach Riding - as well as the School based facilities there are countryside rides and many local bridle paths with the added attraction of being close to the sea with the opportunity for rides along the beach. Vaulting – is one of the newest equine sports; probably best described as ‘gymnastics on horseback’. The skills needed by the gymnast and the rider are very similar, both requiring balance, coordination and a certain amount of courage. It is great fun and taught at the school by a qualified coach. Riding for the Disabled - The School is the headquarters of the Lowestoft Riding for the Disabled Association Group. Riding helps people to improve their health and wellbeing, delivering a real and lasting therapy that not only benefits mobility and co-ordination, but encourages confidence and self worth whilst having fun. Lessons – Pakefield Riding School offers lessons to all ages and stages of horse rider. Please see our lessons section

Active Suffolk is one of 43 Active Partnerships across England committed to increasing the number of people taking part in sport and physical activity.

We work in conjunction with a wide range of partners including local authorities, national governing bodies (NGB's), the education sector, the health sector, charitable/voluntary organisations and third sector organisations and our role is to enhance and develop the provision of sport and physical activity in Suffolk.

As well as supporting the development of sports clubs, coaches and volunteers, we also provide an Active Wellbeing service - an umbrella term that used for a number of services and projects that help people Suffolk to become more active. These services range from community based development services working closely with GP surgeries to specific services supporting people with long term health conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis and more.

We also spend a lot of time helping the wider community including health professionals, community leaders and volunteers to understand the benefits and national guidelines for physical activity and the significant impact that it can have on someone’s health.

We provide access for all to the local countryside. There is a surfaced path which is approximately 1 mile, which leads to the Victorian walled garden. Wherever possible we have removed steps and stiles to make the site more accessible.
