A1 Fun Club Out of School care

( reviews) Holiday Scheme

A1 Fun Club is a well established children's Day Nursery and Out of School club. We offer our children and their families a welcoming and friendly environment where children can learn and develop individually, through a wide range of challenging and stimulating activities that will enhance their development. Our Breakfast and After school clubs provide transfers to and from local schools as well as fun and safe place for your child out of school. Each session is filled with fun activities that the children can enjoy with their friends.
We have been established for 16 years. Our highly trained and qualified staff have many years of knowledge and experience, they are a caring and thoughtful team. Many of our children are returning siblings or attended our nursery and now attend our out of school club. Over many years we have built excellent links to the local community, with the local schools and the health/children's centre.

At our Ofsted inspection in September 2018, the inspector reported 'Staff form close and supportive partnerships with parents, who praise staff for the care and attention they give their children. Parents become actively involved in their children's learning. They have good opportunities to share information about their children's daily experiences with staff. The qualified and experienced staff work well as a cohesive team and have a good understanding of their responsibilities. They deploy themselves effectively to supervise children during their play and provide them with the support they need.'

Active Communities - Suffolk Coastal District Council

The Active Communities team develops and co-ordinates activities, in partnership with the education and health services, the police and the voluntary sector, to maximise achievement in sport, encourage personal fitness and healthy lifestyles - particularly in young and older people.

We work closely with schools, clubs, coaches and facilities to improve access to sport and physical activity for all sectors of the community. We also provide support and advice to sport and leisure groups and the voluntary sector. The team runs a variety of outreach programmes.

Our aim is to make sport more accessible, especially to people in the more remote villages in our district, by taking activities out into local communities. These activities have included the summer playscheme and mobile skatepark, which proved very popular with children and young people in the villages it visited.

The Activities on offer are Activity Camp Days; Fishing; and Forest Camp. See below for a break down of these activities or contact Active Communities for more information and a booking form. Please note these activities are extremely popular, booking in advance is required to avoid disappointment.

The Activity Camp days have a specific theme each day combined with a mountain of activities on offer such as Dodgeball, Puppet Making, Football, Face Painting, Quick Cricket, Parachute Games, Rounders, Giant Garden Games and many more. Family Discount - With every additional sibling you will receive a discount of £2.00

Arger Fen & Spouse's Vale Local Nature Reserve, Suffolk Wildlife Trust (SWT)

This woodland is a fascinating mosaic of ancient coppice woodland, new naturally regenerating woodland alongside wet meadows. The interesting mix of trees includes oak, ash, field maple, holly, crab apple, superb large alder and hazel stools. This reserve is also one of only a few ancient woodlands in Suffolk with wild cherry.
It’s best to visit in spring when you will be greeted with a fabulous display of bluebells accompanied by the magical song of woodland birds. Listen out for black cap, whitethroat and willow warbler.

Autism Movement Therapy - Ability School of Dance

ABILITY SCHOOL OF DANCE is an up and coming local dance class provider.

We offer specialised, inclusive opportunities to dance, for individuals of all ages and abilities.

Our classes are specifically tailored to suit those from a wide selection of marginalised groups, who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience the benefits of dance.

We cover both the creative and technical aspects of movement, in a variety of styles and genres.

Our aim is to promote physical, mental and emotional wellbeing for all of our participants. We achieve this by focusing on multiple skill sets, which in turn also vastly improve the future life prospects of our dancers.

AUTISM MOVEMENT THERAPY classes, starting Autumn 2018.

Please get in touch to book onto a free taster session!

AMT is an exciting, innovative approach, combining movement, music and improvisation in a highly structured program, in order to enrich the lives of individuals on the Autism Spectrum.

Supported by academic research, the AMT method is proving to be one of the most effective ways to activate and awaken areas of the brain, which may otherwise remain dormant in these individuals.

AMT works by involving both visual movement mirroring and auditory receptive processing, alongside repetition of progressive patterns and increasingly complex sequences, to stimulate both the left and right hemispheres of the brain simultaneously.

Whereas in Autism, communication between the two hemispheres is impaired, this in turn promotes interhemispheric integration - cognitive re-mapping, made possible by the existence of neuroplasticity - through which both established and new neuronal pathways across the corpus callosum are strengthened.

Ultimately, connectivity and transmission across the whole brain is optimised, enabling individuals on the Autism Spectrum to process information in a far more efficient manner.

AMT has repeatedly been shown to lead to vast improvements in social interaction, self-esteem, behavioural responses, emotional regulation, speech & language comprehension, sensorimotor skills, focus, memory and consequentially, in addition, academic achievement.

Rather than “fixing” autism, AMT aims to empower individuals, enabling them to become more independent and better able to cope in an unpredictable, neurotypical world, therefore allowing them to lead happier, more fulfilling lives.

Training sessions are split to allow less experienced players to learn the basics at a more gentle pace, helped by dedicated coaches and more experienced players. Then, later in the session, the focus switches so the Team and more experienced players can develop their skills and game playing.

Once a month (normally the last Thursday) a session targeting children 4 and above is run by a dedicated coach.

Green Light Trust

Green Light Trust is a well established and successful environmental education charity which uses the Power of Nature to transform lives; with woodlands at Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich, RSPB Minsmere, and special project locations around East Anglia.

We provide 100s of disadvantaged or marginalised adults and children with support for their wellbeing, work and life skills, through our woodland and online programmes.

We do this by:

  • Inspiring, empowering and supporting people with woodland wellbeing and educational activities
  • Enhancing the education, health and wellbeing of individuals and community groups to cope better with the life challenges they face, through using opportunities in the natural environment.
  • Engaging people on a mental health or alcohol and substance abuse recovery pathway.
  • Improving mental and physical wellbeing, self-esteem, confidence, social and communication skills.
  • Offering support to individuals who feel socially anxious or isolated.
  • Working with employment and probation services to help people back into work, training or volunteering opportunities.
  • Working with schools, colleges, pupil referral units and local authorities to provide alternative education provision for children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEND), autism, behavioural challenges  or other barriers which mean they struggle in mainstream education.

This provider was Quality Assured in 2017 and is now an approved provider by Suffolk County Council's Quality Assurance and Provider Development Team - find out more here.

I Made This, Adventures in Animation - Beccles

I Made This is a digital media charity. We are currently running projects in Lowestoft,Ipswich and Beccles.

All our work uses digital media. We provide animation projects, we make films for charities and not for profits, we provide training for other organisations that want to work in digital media.

Our animation workshop is aimed at children and young people on the autistic spectrum and those with other learning difficulties.

The sessions are aimed at young people who want to learn how to make simple stop frame animation films. We encourage an atmosphere of calm and aim to work one to one with all the participants at some point during the session.

Inspire Suffolk - Charity offering support for local young people

Inspire Suffolk: Supporting young people onto a positive future.

Inspire Suffolk is a charity dedicated to supporting young people onto a positive future. Each day, we work at the forefront of helping young people to overcome challenges onto positive next steps in their lives back into employment and further training. We offer life-changing personal development programmes, motivational education courses and engaging sports activities that local young people need and may not have access to.

Our personal development programmes change young lives, tackling a range of issues that young people are facing. Students learn many new skills and qualities to enable them to work as a team, build up confidence and self–esteem and build key skills for work and life, all which play a key part in helping to find positive sustainable outcomes.

We also offer ‘free to access’ sport sessions to provide activities for children & young people to take part in without the barrier of cost, to build confidence and skills and keep them busy taking part in positive activity! As well as this we provide Holiday Clubs for local children during the school holidays, Health Kicks football supporting mental health, and disability sports sessions.

Prince's Trust Team programme

Our Prince's Trust Team Programme is a 12-week experience for 16-25-year-olds across Suffolk & North Essex who aren’t currently in work or education to build their confidence and move forward into something positive.

You will take part in new experiences, meet young people in the same boat as you, take part in a work placement, plan and complete a community project, grow in confidence, self-esteem and motivation. If this sounds like you or someone you know, get in touch with our team to discuss your options. If you're not sure about your next steps, this could be the perfect course for you!

Travel to and from programme provided and this does not affect any benefits that you receive. Find out more here.

Step Up (2-week industry related courses)

Inspire Suffolk’s Step Up courses aim to provide young people (16-24 years) the opportunity to gain industry related training and qualifications required as a stepping stone into employment.  Our Step Up courses last two weeks and support your first steps into employment within your desired sector.

We have previously hosted Step Up courses in Health & Social Care, Construction, Hospitality, Retail, Sport with companies including Vertas, MSC, and TA Hotel Collection with many more to come. These courses have allowed our students to gain qualifications and training they require to get onto their desired career path including CSCS card training and Health & Safety qualifications to name a few.

Please visit our website for more information and up-to-date course dates here.

Sport at Inspire Suffolk

Our team of experienced sports coaches deliver a variety of engaging sports sessions across Suffolk to develop technical skills, game understanding and most importantly, confidence and social skills that develop self-esteem and motivation to continue playing.

A lot of the work we undertake uses the power of sport to engage as many children and young people in various programmes. We are committed to developing a much wider offering that encourages those interested in learning other sports such as tennis, basketball, and handball just as much opportunity. We also offer a range of disability sport too.

Venue Hire supporting our charity

We have charity bases in both Ipswich on Lindbergh Road and Lowestoft at Colville House. Both of these venues can be hired to host a range of events from parties to sports sessions and any profit from these supports our charity working with local young people. We can host celebrations, business events, sports clubs or events and more! Find out more about hiring our venues here.

Museum of East Anglian Life

With 17 historic buildings set in 75 acres of beautiful countryside, the Museum of East Anglian Life is the largest independent museum in Suffolk. The museum is an educational charity supporting the community. We care for over 40,000 objects – once the everyday items of East Anglian life. Our collection has a particular focus on the production of food and social history relating to it, reflective of the region’s strong agricultural character.

Visitors can also explore nearly 3 km of woodland and riverside nature trails and meet friendly animals in the farm area. The wonderful Walled Garden is maintained by a team of volunteers who have created a peaceful haven which also sells fresh produce.

Try some delicious homemade food in the Osier Cafe based at the museum.

Join the museum community by volunteering; meet new people, gain some new skills and improve your physical health and well-being by getting outdoors and giving back to the community. The museum has over 100 volunteers, they work in our shop, in the Walled Garden, on the Heritage Farm and even from home on our remote volunteering project.

There is free entry for pre-booked educational groups as well as a variety of museum led sessions and loans boxes full of handling objects which can be borrowed from the museum. Reminiscence loan boxes of museum objects are also available, for use by community groups, residential homes, carers organisations or people who are involved in memory work with the elderly.

National Trust (Access for everyone)

The National Trust is for everyone, and we want to make it easy for disabled visitors to enjoy the places we care for. We’re continually looking to create solutions for accessibility which are creative and sensitive to our surroundings.

We also have an ongoing process of improving accessibility information for our places. This information can be found under the ‘Facilities and Access’ section of their individual web pages. If you’d like to visit a specific place, but can’t find the information online, please contact the property directly.

The Essential Companion card makes it simple to bring one or two carers or companions with you, free of charge. Just show the card when you arrive, and your carer(s) or companion(s) won’t need to pay an entry fee.

The Links Pass gives half-price entry to groups affiliated with disability charities, day centres, or registered care homes. Carers or companions with the group are welcome free of charge. To order your pass or card, just get in touch with us by phone, email, or post.

Notes

Pakefield Riding School, one of the oldest and best known horse riding centres and stables in the East Anglia. Within easy riding distance of Pakefield Beach, the School offers a wide range of activities, such as: Pony for the Day - supervised by qualified staff is a popular attraction, especially useful for those considering the commitment needed if you intend to own your own pony. The pupils start the day by feeding, grooming and cleaning out their pony followed by showing, a lesson, lunch and then a Gymkhana or ride to the beach or countryside. Beach Riding - as well as the School based facilities there are countryside rides and many local bridle paths with the added attraction of being close to the sea with the opportunity for rides along the beach. Vaulting – is one of the newest equine sports; probably best described as ‘gymnastics on horseback’. The skills needed by the gymnast and the rider are very similar, both requiring balance, coordination and a certain amount of courage. It is great fun and taught at the school by a qualified coach. Riding for the Disabled - The School is the headquarters of the Lowestoft Riding for the Disabled Association Group. Riding helps people to improve their health and wellbeing, delivering a real and lasting therapy that not only benefits mobility and co-ordination, but encourages confidence and self worth whilst having fun. Lessons – Pakefield Riding School offers lessons to all ages and stages of horse rider. Please see our lessons section

Due to Covid-19, we are following UK Government advice and suspending all face-to-face delivery of our projects until further notice.

We know that the need for creativity and company is even more important than ever right now, and have new ways to support the communities of people we work with.  Please visit our website for more information on individual projects.

We are a participatory arts charity. We develop and deliver inclusive arts programmes in communities that bring skills, support networks, confidence and joy to people in the East.

Our creative projects aim to help people transform their lives through the arts, and are delivered in places including community centres, hospitals and hospices, residential homes, refuges and schools.

Our work is led by experienced arts practitioners, encompassing a rich variety of art forms, and is delivered in close partnership with care, education, voluntary and community organisations.

Active Suffolk

Active Suffolk is one of 43 Active Partnerships across England committed to increasing the number of people taking part in sport and physical activity.

We work in conjunction with a wide range of partners including local authorities, national governing bodies (NGB's), the education sector, the health sector, charitable/voluntary organisations and third sector organisations and our role is to enhance and develop the provision of sport and physical activity in Suffolk.

As well as supporting the development of sports clubs, coaches and volunteers, we also provide an Active Wellbeing service - an umbrella term that used for a number of services and projects that help people Suffolk to become more active. These services range from community based development services working closely with GP surgeries to specific services supporting people with long term health conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis and more.

We also spend a lot of time helping the wider community including health professionals, community leaders and volunteers to understand the benefits and national guidelines for physical activity and the significant impact that it can have on someone’s health.
