The organisation, founded in 1967, is an independent and registered charity.
Through our services the team provides free non-judgmental, specialist advice and information to the public and professionals on issues related to drug use and to drug laws.
The organisation campaigns directly on issues that impact on our clients - it is their experiences that drive the policy work that Release does and why we advocate for evidence-based drug policies that are founded on principles of public health rather than a criminal justice approach.

We work to reduce the incidence and costs of alcohol-related harm and to increase the range and quality of services available to people with alcohol-related problems. We provide information and encourage debate on the wide range of public policy issues affected by alcohol; including public health, housing, children and families, crime and licensing. We support specialist and non-specialist service providers helping to tackle alcohol problems at a local level, whilst also working to influence national alcohol policy.

We have two operational activities:
- The Hope Centre, set in 2-acres of beautiful Suffolk countryside, offers a confidential, safe and supportive environment to help resident women recover from misfortune and vulnerability. TK provide supported housing at the Hope Centre where women can stay until they are ready to move on and live independent. Whilst living at the Hope Centre women are expected to be part of the caring community of up to 11 women with diverse backgrounds. Everyone has the privacy of their own en-suite bedroom and the living rooms are for communal living. Every resident is required to participate in daily chores and follow the house rules which are there for the protection of all residents. For example, no alcohol is allowed on site for the benefit of those recovering from addictions. Residents can participate in activities at the Hope Centre or travel into Ipswich during the day for work, education, therapeutic activities or other appointments. Visitors are allowed during the day time but never over-night. A specialist team will support residents to access active, healthy, holistic and happy life opportunities.

For more than 25 years we have been working with people to build positive and productive futures. We believe that anyone is capable of lasting change. Our services have supported thousands of people to make changes to create better lives with jobs, family, friends and a sense of community.
About our drug and alcohol services
Around 2 million people (1 in 30 adults) in the UK are struggling with addiction to drugs or alcohol. Amongst marginalised groups, such as homeless people, the proportion can be as high as 1 in 3 and amongst prisoners, it is higher than 1 in 2 – more than 50% of all prisoners have some history of drug or alcohol problems. The waste of potential, as well as the social and emotional damage involved is massive – but it is also redeemable. Forward manages a diverse range of drug and alcohol recovery services that aim to provide individuals with the care and support to stabilise their lives and think about the future, the strength and motivation to believe in change, and the support and connection to stay the course. Our accredited 12 step programmes have independently proven success rates in achieving these transformations, and we are applying the 25 years of experience of these programmes to a wider range of client needs and circumstances.

We are recovering addicts who meet regularly to help each other stay clean. This is a program of complete abstinence from all drugs. There is only ONE requirement for membership, the desire to stop using. We suggest that you keep an open mind and give yourself a break. Our program is a set of principles written so simply that we can follow them in our daily lives. The most important thing about them is that THEY WORK.There are no strings attached to N.A. We are not affiliated with any other organizations, we have no initiation fees or dues, no pledges to sign, no promises to make to anyone. We are not connected with any political, religious or law enforcement groups, and are under no surveillance at any time. Anyone may join us, regardless of age, race, sexual identity, creed, religion or lack of religion.
We are not interested in what or how much you used or who your connections were, what you have done in the past, how much or how little you have, but only in what you want to do about your problem and how we can help. The newcomer is the most important person at any meeting, because we can only keep what we have by giving it away. We have learned from our group experience that those who keep coming to our meetings regularly stay clean.

GamFam is a registered Charity (1191139) set up by those who have experienced first-hand the devastating effects that gambling can have on family and friends.
As a family, we had no-one to talk to. We had no idea where to go for support, nor that a gambling addiction was in fact, a recognised mental well-being disorder. Things could have been so different for our family, ‘if only we knew then, what we know now’. It is with this ‘lived experience’ we hope that your family will also be able to start recovering from the effects of gambling harms.
GamFam offer support through GRA5P – The GamFam Recovery and Support Programme. GRA5P is a structured 5-stage self-help peer support programme, which was designed originally to support those affected by someone else’s gambling. However, more recently and out of increasing demand, GamFam have now developed a programme to support those directly in recovery too.
GRA5P
Knowing that you are not alone and that you have the opportunity to share your experiences in a safe space, with no fear of judgement and with others who have real empathy and understanding makes Peer Support such a powerful tool to help you in your recovery.
Currently all of our meetings run remotely via Zoom which means we are able help and support more people in more locations without any natural barriers to location. Meetings are hosted by trained GamFam facilitators and usually have between 6 to 10 members, with the option of 1 to 1 Peer Support if required.
The GRA5P programme delivers a strong support network so that group members can start to understand the devastating impact that a gambling harms can have. It also offers guidance on how individuals, families and friends can help themselves, as well as practical suggestions for coping day-by-day, to improve well-being and to help work towards a more positive future.
Our Vision
Empowering individuals and families to alleviate the impact of gambling harms and move towards a positive future.
Our Mission
To offer hope to anyone affected by gambling harms and the opportunity to share their experiences in a safe space, without fear of judgement with others who have genuine empathy and understanding.
How we achieve Our Mission
- We provide advice and support to those directly and indirectly affected by gambling harms through structured peer support and signposting to relevant partners and agencies.
- By raising public awareness and understanding of the early warning signs commonly associated with the development of a gambling addiction we aim to promote early intervention and minimise any related potential harms.
Our Values
GamFam is an organisation that is committed to supporting any person directly or indirectly affected by gambling harms by:
- Ensuring Lived Experience of gambling harms is at the centre of everything we do
- Providing a safe, supportive and inclusive service with care and respect
- Carrying out our work to the highest of standards and with integrity
- Working with like-minded partners, organisations and our members in partnership

The Turning Point Youth team work with young people up to their 25th birthday to support them to address their substance misuse issues. (Our service covers addictions to all types of drugs.)
The youth service is a little different to the adult one; we offer an outreach service and will meet with young people wherever is best for them; in school, college, their GP surgery, at other professionals’ bases, at their home or even in a café; we want to limit the barriers to engaging in treatment.
What Turning Point youth service can offer:
- Outreach service
- Comprehensive assessment
- Non-judgmental and confidential service
- Individualised care plan – looking at all aspects of a young person’s life (school/work/relationships/family), and who else can support them to improve their lives
- One to one weekly sessions with their named keyworker
- Information, advice and guidance to help the young person make informed choices and understand what other support there is out there for them
- Drug and Alcohol education – around the drugs they use and drugs they want to know more about, or that their family/ friends are using
- Up to date and factual information and advice
- Support to look at their drug or alcohol use – what are they using? How much? How often? What changes do they want to make? What is the impact of their use?
- Support to cut down, gain control or quit
- Support to understand and access other services which can offer support
- Group work sessions to help groups of friends understand drugs or alcohol more
- Support to talk to parents or care givers to talk about the young person’s drug or alcohol use – if they want to.
- Clinical interventions – substitute prescribing, Blood Born Virus and vaccination – by a specialist youth clinician
- Support for parents and care givers to learn more about drugs and alcohol
- Drug awareness sessions for professionals
- Group work sessions – to learn and explore the risks and effects of use
Our criteria for working with a young person is:
- they must be using or recently have been using drugs or alcohol
- they need to be aware of the referral and willing to work with us.
Young people not seeing they have a problem can be a sticking point sometimes when we work with parents, carers and professionals to get the young person the help and support they need. In this case we can offer them brief interventions looking at education and information, supporting them to raise their knowledge base and be better equipped to make informed choices. Our youth team are very good at being able to engage with young people so after the first meeting they can allay the young person’s fears and look at a plan that suits their needs without being overwhelming.
We work in partnership with other support agencies to help young people build a community-based support network:
If you are working with a young person who has mental health issues and is using drugs or alcohol to self-medicate then you can refer them to us – we can support them to make changes and stabilise if not eliminate their drug use so that when they engage with mental health services, they are in a better situation to be able to engage in therapy. We can help them learn new ways to cope with the issues that have led them to use substances in the first place.
We can tailor our service to meet the needs of the client as well as work alongside any agency that is working with them.
We are aware that use of drugs and alcohol is one of the noted risk factors for missing children, engagement in gangs; break down in family relations, as well as failure to thrive in education.
Let our service help your service users make positive, informed choices to do with their drug or alcohol use.Further information is available on the Turning Point Suffolk Online Wellbeing Cloud

At Turning Point, we…Sanderson House17-19 Museum StreetIpswichSuffolkIP1 1HESuffolk Recovery Network is your local drug and alcohol service offering support to adults and young people when and where they most need it. Our services are free.
We understand that drugs and alcohol can affect many areas of your life. At Turning Point, we get to know you as a person, to understand exactly what you need to start your recovery and live a healthier life. There are many paths to a life free from drugs and alcohol and together we can find the path that's right for you.
What age does our service support?
Our services are for adults and young people, offering individualised support to help them reach their goals. The youngest person we have worked with has been 10 years old, but we can work with any age if they are using drugs.
The young peoples drug and alcohol service can work with people up to the age of 25 if there are additional needs or vulnerabilities – this will be on a case by case basis and we will support the client to access Adult services if they don’t fit our criteria.
If you are 25 and under looking for support, please see our 'Turning Point Dedicated Youth Service'
What can I expect from your service?
Our service provides bespoke one to one client lead care. We offer a full and comprehensive assessment which is a chance for the worker and the client to get to know each other. Then from there a Care Plan is created to meet the needs of the client. This is reviewed every 12 weeks to check on progress and to set new goals. The client will be offered regular appointments, usually weekly. We can work with a client as long as is necessary. We work closely with other organisations like Iceni and Suffolk Family Carers across the county to ensure the right support is there when you need it.
We have group support sessions that can help you to understand the reasons behind your substance misuse and help you develop ways of managing the effect of it.
Recovery is about you feeling more in control. We will help you to manage any stress or anxiety that you might have, and to develop a personal plan, set goals and celebrate achievements to support your emotional wellbeing.
How do we support carers including friends and family?
As mentioned, we work with Suffolk Family Carers so that care givers and family members can get specialist support and a brilliant service.
If a parent/carer contacts us on behalf of a young person, but the young person may not acknowledge they have a problem or if your concerns do not meet our threshold for support, we will give you appropriate and individualised feedback, and signpost you towards parenting groups, Suffolk Family Carers - places where you can find support.
How are decisions made about who can use our service?
Our service is available to anyone using or has recently used drugs or has an addiction to alcohol. If the client is under 25 and using or has recently used drugs they can talk to us. There is no threshold, and every young person is offered an assessment.
What is our confidentiality policy?
Our service is confidential therefore we do not share any information unless we have consent from the client. When working with young people we do not share any information with parents or carers unless we have consent from the young person. We also do not need parent’s consent to work with a young person. (We do encourage clients to involve family members and those close to them if this is beneficial to their care and recovery.)
